Retracked is a 3D single-player, role-playing game with FPS elements set in an apocalyptic world ruled by deformed creatures. The player takes on the role of a Retracker, a fighter detective, who is tasked to retrieve dream memory fragments of the human world when it had peace and investigate the past. They get to explore an abandoned Train Railway area nearby a Train Station which is said to lead the player to their objectives, but dangers hide amongst the trains. The player is the only Retracker left to figure out how to bring back the world they once lived in.
This is my final university project for my Honours Degree. I aim to apply intuitive methods in the design of the gameplay and mechanics to create a game for casual players who are more sensitive to the action and shooter genres.
The intuitive methods I chose were specifically aimed to reduce stress, anxiety, and panic attacks, lower blood pressure to a healthy point and not overwhelm the consumer. These are the most common issues described by sensitive people when they experience adrenaline-packed games like from the FPS genre. Some of those methods are using a particular colour scheme for the environment and VFX, slow down mechanic which allows for easier aim and intuitive level design while still following the FPS standard locations like elevated areas, open areas, hide corners and underneath bigger objects.
